Russia to receive two modernised A-50U

Russia will receive two modernised A-50U Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) by the end of 2018.

The A-50 aircraft was developed and manufactured by the Beriev Aircraft Research and Engineering Complex Joint Stock Company.

Developed from the llyushin IL-76MD military transport aircraft, the A-50 aircraft is available in A-50M, A-50U, A-50I and A-50E/I variants.

The first A-50U aircraft was handed over to the Russian Armed Forces in 2011. Since then, these planes have been actively used by the Russian forces, including during their anti-terrorist operations in Syria.
